Daegu City has begun efforts to erase traces of former Mayor Hong Joonpyo.
On June 23, Daegu City announced that it would significantly reduce the size of its Seoul Headquarters, which had been expanded excessively by former Mayor Hong three years ago, and also decrease the number of employees working there.
When Hong Joonpyo took office as Daegu Mayor in July 2022, he established a Public Relations Support Division within the Seoul Headquarters and significantly increased the number of staff assigned to the Seoul office.
However, after three years, Daegu City has abolished the Public Relations Support Division that was created by former Mayor Hong and reduced the number of employees at the Seoul Headquarters from 13 to 7.
Daegu City has been publicly announcing these changes to the "Enforcement Rules for Administrative Organizations and Staffing Ordinance" since June 20, and plans to implement them starting July 10.
Daegu City employees have voiced concerns, saying, "While other metropolitan governments are expanding their Seoul offices, Daegu is reducing its own. Isn't this a full-scale effort to erase the traces of the former mayor?" However, Daegu City officials explained, "We understand that the number of employees was reduced from 13 to 7 as part of the process of downsizing the special advisors who had worked at the Seoul Headquarters during former Mayor Hong's tenure."
