On the 23rd, the city held a "New Government Pledge National Task Promotion Progress Review Meeting" chaired by Vice Mayor Jang Sanggil, where in-depth discussions were held on strategies to include core projects that will determine Pohang's future?such as the establishment of the POSTECH Medical School and special measures for the steel and secondary battery industries?as national policy tasks.

This meeting was a proactive measure following the launch of the National Planning Committee, which is acting as the transition team for the Lee Jaemyung administration, on the 16th, marking the full-scale development of the national administration roadmap and policy tasks.

The city is reviewing the implementation plans for regional pledges, while also working to strengthen alignment with government policy directions and devise concrete measures to ensure that Pohang's priority projects are adopted as national policy tasks.

During the meeting, focused discussions were held on response strategies centered around regional pledges proposed by the new government, including: the implementation of special measures to overcome the crisis in the steel industry; construction of the Yeongilman Grand Bridge; development of a key hub for the global secondary battery supply chain; creation of specialized zones for hydrogen, steel, and new materials; and enhancement of accessibility to the integrated new airport's metropolitan transportation network.

In addition, in line with the new government's policy direction, Pohang City decided to make all-out efforts to ensure that its priority projects?such as the establishment of the POSTECH Medical School, attraction of the second phase of relocating public institutions, development of a hydrogen energy expressway, creation of a super-gap AI infrastructure mega-cluster, construction of a national veterans' nursing home in the East Coast region of North Gyeongsang Province, and hosting the 2027 ICLEI World Congress?can also be adopted as national policy tasks.

Pohang City plans to first ensure that the identified key projects are included in North Gyeongsang Province's national policy tasks, and then directly visit central government ministries to explain implementation plans and actively persuade them of the necessity of adopting these projects as national policy tasks.

Vice Mayor Jang Sanggil emphasized, "Inclusion as national policy tasks and securing state budgets are the core driving forces that will determine Pohang's future," and added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that Pohang's major projects are included as key initiatives of the new government, through close cooperation with North Gyeongsang Province, the central government, and the political community."
