Chosun University announced on June 23 that Min Ki Choi, a student in the Department of Electrical Engineering, was recently selected as a new recipient of the "2025 Presidential Science Scholarship" program, which is organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Student Aid Foundation.
The Presidential Science Scholarship is a national talent development program that identifies and supports the most outstanding individuals with creativity and potential in the field of science and technology, helping them grow into world-class core scientists. The program provides full tuition and academic encouragement grants until graduation.
Recipients are selected through a comprehensive evaluation of academic excellence in science and technology, sense of social responsibility, and commitment to social contribution. This year, a total of 157 students were selected, including 60 first-year students at domestic universities, 60 third-year students at domestic universities, 17 regional nominees, and 20 students at overseas universities. Min Ki Choi was selected in the third-year domestic university category.
Since May of last year, Min Ki Choi has been working as an intern researcher in the Electrical Properties Laboratory led by Professor Namhoon Kim in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Chosun University. He has conducted research on the development of chemical and mechanical polishing processes for next-generation power semiconductor gallium oxide substrates, as well as on the synaptic characteristics of neuromorphic artificial intelligence semiconductors.
During this period, he achieved excellent research results, including presentations at international academic conferences and awards at the Semiconductor Capstone Design Competition. In addition to his studies, he has consistently participated in administrative volunteer work at the university and in local educational volunteer activities, putting his sense of social responsibility into practice.
Min Ki Choi stated, "I am grateful to the university and my professors for providing advanced equipment and academic insights," and added, "I will continue to devote myself to my studies and research to contribute to the semiconductor field."
Professor Namhoon Kim commented, "Min Ki Choi's selection is an excellent example of Chosun University's engineering education and research system. We will actively support our students so that they can fully realize their potential and contribute to the advancement of science and technology in Korea."
