Pilot Operation at 10 Branches
Clear Results in Effectiveness, Internal Control, and Employee Satisfaction
On June 23, Woori Bank announced that it will become the first in the banking sector to fully implement the 'Smart Cash Management Machine' across all branches nationwide and officially launch its digital-based internal control system.
This measure is a core strategic initiative driven by the strong commitment to digital innovation of CEO Jung Jinwan. It is considered a prime example of achieving two goals simultaneously: preventing financial incidents in advance by strengthening internal controls through digital technology, and streamlining branch counter operations.
Previously, Woori Bank conducted a pilot operation of the 'Smart Cash Management Machine' at 10 branches nationwide and confirmed clear results in terms of effectiveness, internal control, and employee satisfaction. Based on these results, the bank plans to complete the installation at all branches nationwide from June 30 to the end of August, thereby establishing a fully automated cash handling system.
The 'Smart Cash Management Machine' is an automated device that allows counter staff to directly deposit, withdraw, and store cash. It is an innovative system that replaces the traditional manual vault management process. Notably, unlike existing cash automation devices that could only process cash in bundles of 100 notes, the 'Smart Cash Management Machine' enables precise management down to individual notes, significantly enhancing the accuracy and stability of cash operations.
In addition, the system enables real-time monitoring of cash in and out records, immediate detection and notification in the event of errors, and automated cash reconciliation. These features not only reduce the burden of cash management for employees but also structurally eliminate the possibility of cash-related incidents.
Jung Jinwan, CEO of Woori Bank, stated, "The full-scale implementation of the Smart Cash Management Machine marks the starting point of digital internal control innovation, going beyond simple cash automation." He added, "We will continue to boldly improve unreasonable practices that have been handled out of habit, and build a trusted Woori Bank through truly effective internal controls."
