Sharing Case Studies of Steel Byproduct Technology Development
for Carbon Reduction in the Steel and Construction Sectors

Hyundai Steel announced on the 23rd that it held the "3rd Steel Byproduct Utilization Construction Material Technology Symposium" at the COEX Magok Convention Center in Seoul.

This symposium was held on the 20th to share technologies for utilizing steel byproducts with high potential value as construction materials and to strengthen cooperation with related organizations, as demand for carbon reduction and resource circulation is increasing across industries.

The event was attended by more than 100 experts from academia and related industries, including Hyundai Steel, the Korea Iron & Steel Association, Hyundai Construction, Ssangyong C&E, and the Road Traffic Research Institute at Korea Expressway Corporation.

Participants explored ways to collaborate while sharing predictions on changes in the use of steel byproducts in the steel and construction sectors, as well as related policies and technology development cases from major institutions, under the theme "Excellence of Construction Materials Utilizing Steel Byproducts."

In particular, Hyundai Steel introduced ways to utilize slag generated from process changes for carbon reduction at the event, while presenters from related organizations gave presentations on a variety of topics, including the current status and outlook for recycling steel byproducts and future challenges.

Yonghee Kim, head of the Process Research Center at Hyundai Steel, said, "Utilizing steel byproducts can contribute to both carbon reduction in construction technology and the advancement of the construction industry," adding, "Through cooperation among industry, academia, and research, we will lead the practical commercialization of technology and improvements in policy."
