World Cuisine, Cultural Experiences, and More

Geumcheon-gu, Seoul announced that during July and August 2025, it will operate the "Chaekmaeul Summer Vacation Program" for local elementary school students at its Geumcheon-style elementary care center, "Chaekmaeul."

"Chaekmaeul" is a district-specialized project that utilizes public small libraries to provide after-school care for elementary children. The district has prepared this program to support out-of-school care during the summer vacation, with the local community working together.

The "Chaekmaeul Summer Vacation Program" will be held four times each at three Chaekmaeul locations over the two months of July and August. The three Chaekmaeul branches are: Chaekmaeul No. 1 (Cheonggaeguri Small Library at Doksan 3-dong Community Center), Chaekmaeul No. 2 (Kkumssi Children’s Small Library at Doksan 4-dong Community Center), and Chaekmaeul No. 3 (Kkumkkuneun Small Library at Siheung 3-dong Dongnaebangnae Community Center).

Each Chaekmaeul branch will offer programs in various fields to spark the interest of elementary students, including world cuisine, cultural experiences, and physical activities. In the world cuisine experience, students will make dishes from countries such as France, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, and Mexico, and learn about the related cultures and histories. Cultural experiences include creating works with sand and balloons, while physical activities feature indoor curling (floor curling) that does not require ice and grade-specific giant chess.

Each program is open to 15 elementary students residing in the district. Schedules and detailed information can be found via the QR code on promotional materials.

Yoo Seonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "During the summer vacation, when care gaps can become more severe, we will utilize the care spaces in local small libraries, 'Chaekmaeul,' to offer a variety of elementary programs and strengthen the out-of-school care system."
