Jangseong County Prevents Heavy Rain Damage Through Preemptive Response

Meetings and Inspections Held During 115.8mm Heavy Rain
Damage Minimized Through Pump Station Operation and Resident Evacuation

Jangseong County in South Jeolla Province took preemptive action against the heavy rainfall on June 20 and 21, successfully preventing damage to residents.

According to the county on the 22nd, the average rainfall over the two days was 115.8 mm, with Bukha-myeon recording the highest amount at 144 mm. No resident damage was reported.

Earlier, the county held a situation assessment meeting at the county office situation room, presided over by the Director of Construction and Agricultural Policy, to review the response system of each department. The county then conducted on-site inspections, focusing on areas vulnerable to landslides, locations at risk of falling rocks, and riverside parks.

Monitoring activities were carried out in underground parking lots and low-lying areas to prevent flooding, and safety management conditions were checked at facilities housing residents with limited mobility, such as nursing homes and facilities for people with disabilities. The county also conducted comprehensive inspections of drainage channels, sewer systems, and stormwater pipes.

The Jangseong Drainage Pump Station, which is responsible for drainage in Jangseong-eup and Hwangryong-myeon, completed pre-inspections and simulation drills. This pump station has a maximum drainage capacity of 32,640 tons per hour, helping to prevent flooding in the town center.

When a heavy rain advisory was issued in the early morning of the 21st, the county sent disaster safety text messages to all residents, and 13 departments began emergency operations. In response to the Korea Forest Service's landslide warning, residents in high-risk areas were evacuated to community centers, and evacuees were provided with disaster safety kits.

Governor Kim stated, "Sudden heavy rain can occur at any time, so advance preparation is crucial," and added, "We will do our utmost to protect the safety of our residents."
