This project not only commemorates Kyochon’s brand heritage but is also drawing attention as a new model of a “Gumi-style cultural space” created through collaboration between the company and the city.
Kyochon Chicken, which began in a small alley in Songjeong-dong in 1991, has grown into a global brand with over 1,300 stores in 10 countries worldwide.
The street surrounding the symbolic first store, known as the “starting point of chicken,” is imbued with the brand’s founding spirit, the region’s history, and the pride of its citizens.
The newly completed “Kyochon 1991-ro” is more than just a street development; it is a symbolic project that combines the branding of urban space, the realization of corporate social value, and regional cultural storytelling. Throughout the street, Kyochon’s history, philosophy, and the appearance of its early days are creatively showcased, offering visitors a unique experience.
The city of Gumi stated, “This project is a meaningful example of capturing regional identity by combining the origin of a brand with urban space,” and added, “Going forward, we plan to operate a variety of cultural programs centered around this street to promote tourism resources and revitalize the local commercial district.”
At the completion ceremony held that day, Kwon Wongang, founder of Kyochon Chicken, as well as Kyochon executives and employees, and local officials were in attendance. The city of Gumi expressed, “We are deeply grateful to Kyochon for their generous support in creating this cultural space,” and emphasized, “From now on, Kyochon 1991-ro will become another reason to walk in Gumi, beyond just chicken.”
