Kim Dongyeon Inspects Heavy Rain Damage at Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on June 20

On June 20, as heavy rain fell mainly in northern Gyeonggi Province, including Gimpo and Paju, Gyeonggi Province Governor Dongyeon Kim visited the Gyeonggi Province Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters in the afternoon to inspect the damage caused by the heavy rain and review the response measures. Gyeonggi Province issued Emergency Level 1 for heavy rain preparedness starting at 6 a.m. that day.

After receiving reports on weather conditions and response measures for each city and county, Governor Kim urged, "This is the first monsoon of the year, so please do your utmost to ensure there are no casualties above all else."

He then instructed the following: ▲to respond to disasters with full force under the mindset that 'excess is better than deficiency'; ▲to conduct preemptive control of disaster-prone areas such as previously affected regions and riverside walking paths; ▲to prioritize welfare calls and prompt preemptive evacuations for those at risk, focusing on township officials and local leaders; ▲and to secure or remove objects at risk of falling, such as tower cranes and construction materials, in preparation for strong winds.

In particular, as heavy rainfall is expected to be concentrated in North Korea and northern Gyeonggi Province, he reiterated the need for thorough preparedness in border areas such as the Imjin River in close cooperation with relevant agencies.

Since midnight, rainfall has been concentrated in northern areas such as Gimpo and Paju, recording 50 to 121 mm of precipitation as of 2 p.m. In particular, between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., hourly rainfall reached a maximum of 30 to 60 mm. Rainfall is expected to intensify from the afternoon until late at night, and most of it is forecast to stop by the morning of the 21st. The expected precipitation for Gyeonggi Province is 50 to 150 mm.

Due to the rain, some areas such as the Naegok underpass in Goyang and the Yuhyeon Bridge in Gimpo were temporarily closed and then reopened, and a total of 75 safety measures were completed, including the removal of hazardous trees and road flooding responses.

Previously, on June 19, Governor Kim visited the restoration site of the Sinansan Line in Gwangmyeong City to directly inspect the heavy rain preparedness, and presided over a video conference with the mayors and county governors of 31 municipalities. He emphasized, "With Gyeonggi Province's disaster response principle of swift judgment and bold action on the ground, please do your best not only for this weekend's heavy rain but also to prepare for the upcoming rainy season."
