Kim Kwangyong (55), the newly appointed head of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters, is regarded as a safety expert who has held various positions related to disaster safety.
Kim graduated from Korea University with a degree in International Trade and began his public service career in 1996 at Jecheon City Hall in North Chungcheong Province after passing the first local civil service exam.
He later served as Director of Life Safety Policy at the Ministry of Public Safety and Security in 2017, and as Director of Disaster Response Policy at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. In 2022, he was appointed Director of Regional Development Policy at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and in September 2023, he became Director General of Natural Disaster Management at the same ministry, responding to various social and natural disasters.
