'Environmental' education entrusted to experienced middle-aged and senior citizens!
The Busan Green Environment Support Center at Pukyong National University (Director Lee Taeyoon) held the 'Middle-aged and Senior Environmental Instructor Capacity Building Program' on June 18, 2025, at the lecture room of the Busan Senior Job Support Center.
This program was jointly organized by the Center and the Senior Job Support Center to strengthen the expertise of middle-aged and senior environmental instructors, in line with Busan City's '2050 Carbon Neutrality' goal. Twelve middle-aged and senior instructors participating in environmental education attended the event, where they shared practical educational content on carbon neutrality and responses to the climate crisis.
The training focused on improving teaching methods and delivery skills to effectively conduct environmental education for elementary school students. Lim Sujeong, Deputy Director of the Environmental Education Institute for All, delivered lectures on topics such as 'Concepts and Latest Trends in Environmental Education.' This was followed by a workshop on carbon neutrality environmental education teaching aids and practical sessions on developing educational programs.
All participants are members of the 'Visiting ESG Fair Travel Environmental Education Instructor Group' and are currently involved in the ESG Job Support Project, which is part of the middle-aged and senior job support initiative. Since last year, they have also participated in the 'Middle-aged and Senior Fair Travel Instructor Training Project' promoted by Busan City and the Korea Tourism Organization, engaging in educational activities that combine tourism and environmental education.
After completing this training, the instructors plan to continue delivering 'Visiting ESG Fair Travel Environmental Education' at local elementary schools, community child centers, and Together Care Centers.
Lee Taeyoon, Director of the Center (Dean of the College of Environmental and Marine Sciences at Pukyong National University), stated, "This is a great opportunity to integrate the experience and capabilities of the middle-aged and senior generation into local environmental education," and added, "We will continue to provide ongoing education and support so that the foundation for the activities of middle-aged and senior instructors can be further expanded."
