Seongnam City Urges: "Always Verify the Authenticity of Official Documents"

Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province announced on June 20 that it is urging citizens and businesses to exercise heightened caution following recent incidents in which scammers impersonated Seongnam City Hall officials, delivered forged official documents, and demanded the purchase of goods.

Attempted Delivery Fraud by Impersonating Officials in Seongnam... Case Referred to Police Public Notice Warning Against Fraudulent Purchases Impersonating Seongnam City Officials. Provided by Seongnam City.

This case came to light when it was discovered that someone had attempted to commit fraud by sending a "Purchase Commitment Letter in the Name of the Mayor of Seongnam" to an automotive supplies store located in Jungwon-gu.

It was revealed that the document in question was not an official letter issued by the city hall, and that the official seal of the Mayor of Seongnam had been forged and stamped on the document.

Seongnam City immediately secured the forged document and requested a police investigation.

Additionally, the city responded promptly by posting a public warning notice for citizens on its official website and issuing an official incident notification to approximately 260 cities, counties, and districts nationwide.

A Seongnam City official stated, "Similar fraud attempts using forged official documents have been confirmed in local governments across the country," and emphasized, "When receiving official documents, please always verify the authenticity of the issuing institution."
