Future-Oriented Eco-Friendly Logistics Center the Size of 18 Soccer Fields to Be Built at Busan New Port

A future-oriented, eco-friendly logistics center the size of 18 soccer fields will be built in the West Container Hinterland Complex at Busan New Port. With the establishment of this large-scale logistics hub equipped with high value-added integrated logistics functions, Busan Port's status as a supply chain center is expected to be further strengthened.

On June 19, Busan Port Authority announced that LX Pantos New Port Eco Logistics Center, which will be located in the first phase of the West Container Hinterland Complex at Busan New Port, held its groundbreaking ceremony and has officially begun preparations for the project.

The construction site covers 125,720 square meters, equivalent to 18 soccer fields, with a total investment of 100 billion won. A future-oriented integrated logistics center that combines smart logistics technologies and eco-friendly features is planned for this site. Busan Port Authority expects this project to serve as a significant turning point in advancing Busan Port as a Northeast Asian supply chain hub.

Previously, in September 2023, Busan Port Authority pursued the provision of large-scale sites that go beyond the existing policy of supplying units of 33,000 square meters. Through this, the foundation was expanded so that tenant companies could freely carry out high value-added logistics activities such as packaging, assembly, processing, and labeling.

The logistics center now under construction is being developed as a consortium between LX Pantos New Port Logistics Center and LG Electronics. Upon completion, it will serve as a forward base for LG Electronics' import and export cargo, handling 137,000 TEU annually. The project is also expected to create jobs. Starting in 2027, when full-scale operations begin, a total of 188 new employees will be hired.

Song Sangkeun, President of Busan Port Authority, stated, "I hope this groundbreaking will serve as the starting point for a sustainable logistics hub representing the hinterland of Busan Port," and emphasized, "We will further enhance Busan Port's competitiveness by providing flexible land supply that reflects corporate demand and policy direction."
