The K-Sports Jokgu Festival will heat up Busan this weekend.
The 33rd Busan Mayor’s Cup Jokgu Tournament, organized to expand the base of recreational jokgu and promote unity among enthusiasts, will take place at Yeongdo-gu Marine Football Field from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on June 22. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
The Busan Jokgu Association announced on June 19 that a total of 72 teams and more than 600 players and coaches will compete in the tournament, which aims to promote a healthy leisure culture, develop recreational sports, and popularize jokgu.
The competition is divided into seven divisions: Invitational J-3 (General Division), Busan J-4 through J-7, Invitational Youth Division, and Invitational Women's Division. Only teams registered with the Korea Jokgu Association are eligible to participate, and each division is limited to 6 to 24 teams. If fewer than 6 teams register for a division, that division will be canceled, except for the Youth Division.
In the Busan J-4 Division, awards will be given up to the quarterfinals, and award ceremonies for each division will be held after the finals. Teams not present at the award ceremony will be excluded from receiving awards.
Registration began last month and closed on June 10. Applications were accepted in the order that both pre-registration and payment of the participation fee were completed. The Women's Division and Youth Division are exempt from participation fees. All participating teams will be provided with lunch and souvenirs.
Youth Division participants must bring a student ID, youth card, or certificate of enrollment; mobile identification is not accepted.
Park Samcheol, President of the Busan Jokgu Association, stated, "We organized the tournament to foster a cheerful social atmosphere and promote unity among jokgu enthusiasts," adding, "We look forward to the active participation and attendance of Busan citizens."
