It has been confirmed that LG Innotek is pursuing a plan to supply camera modules to Figure AI, a US-based humanoid robot startup. If the deal is finalized, this will mark LG Innotek's first full-scale entry into the market for camera modules used in robots.
According to industry sources on June 19, LG Innotek is currently negotiating the quantity and price terms for camera modules to be installed in humanoid robots developed by Figure AI. The supply is expected to begin early next year.
Figure AI, founded in 2022, is a robotics specialist company that has attracted investments from global giants such as Nvidia and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Engineers from Tesla and Boston Dynamics have joined its development team, drawing significant attention. Recently, Figure AI conducted a pilot operation of its latest humanoid robot, Figure 02, for automobile assembly at a BMW factory. The current valuation of Figure AI is estimated to be approximately $39.5 billion (about 54 trillion KRW).
In addition to supply discussions with Figure AI, LG Innotek is expanding its collaboration across the entire humanoid robotics sector. At CES 2025, held this January, more than half of the 14 humanoid robot companies featured in Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's keynote speech were reportedly in partnership with LG Innotek. These companies include Boston Dynamics, Agility Robotics, Unitree, Apptronik, and Sanctuary AI, among others.
In particular, last May, LG Innotek signed a joint agreement with Boston Dynamics to develop a vision sensing system and is preparing technologies to be applied to the next-generation robot "Atlas."
Hyeoksoo Moon, CEO of LG Innotek, stated after the regular shareholders' meeting in March, "We are preparing for mass production of components to be used in the humanoid robot business next year," and added, "We will soon be able to share news of collaboration with a major company."
Regarding the potential supply contract with Figure AI, LG Innotek commented, "We cannot confirm any information related to our clients."
