Guaranteeing Cultural Enjoyment Rights through the Creation of Cultural Spaces
The first small art museum in Sancheong County, South Gyeongsang Province, has officially opened its doors and begun full-scale operations.
The county announced on the 19th that an opening ceremony for the small art museum was held at the Culture and Arts Center.
The event was attended by Sancheong County Governor Lee Seunghwa, Sancheong County Council Chair Kim Suhan, county council members, the director of the Gyeongnam Provincial Art Museum, representatives from cultural and arts organizations, and local residents, who gathered to celebrate the opening.
The newly established small art museum was created to allow local residents to experience art in their daily lives and to improve accessibility to visual culture. In particular, the museum aims to guarantee cultural enjoyment rights and promote cultural and artistic activities by operating a variety of programs in its complex visual arts exhibition space.
Located on the first floor of the Culture and Arts Center, the small art museum was set up using a shared building and covers an area of 144 square meters. At the Sancheong County Small Art Museum, which opened on this day, the traveling provincial art museum exhibition titled "Jeongjungdong - Movement in Stillness" will be held until the 29th.
"Jeongjungdong" embodies the meaning in Eastern philosophy that stillness (Jeong) and movement (Dong) do not oppose but coexist. The exhibition features works by artists such as Lee Ufan and Jeon Hyeoklim, who have led the flow of modern Korean art, as well as major pieces from the collection of the Gyeongnam Provincial Art Museum.
Meanwhile, starting with this exhibition, Sancheong County plans to present a variety of programs throughout the year, including invitational exhibitions of renowned artists, senior artists, and female artists.
Governor Lee Seunghwa said, "This opening is meaningful in that it helps address cultural imbalances between regions and social groups and creates a complex cultural space that communicates with the local community," adding, "We will continue our efforts to ensure that residents can enjoy arts and culture in their daily lives."
