'Kim Keonhee Special Prosecutor Team' Begins First Official Schedule
Visits to Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, Central District Prosecutors' Office, Southern District Prosecutors' Office, and Financial Supervisory Service
"Case Discussions and Requests for Dispatch"
On June 18, Min Jungki, the special prosecutor appointed to investigate allegations related to Kim Keonhee, wife of former President Yoon Sukyeol, met with top officials of the prosecution as his first official activity. After requesting cooperation for the dispatch of prosecutors, he also visited the Financial Supervisory Service.
At around 2 p.m. that day, Special Prosecutor Min, accompanied by assistant special prosecutors Kim Hyeonggeun, Park Sangjin, Oh Jeonghee, and Moon Hongju, visited the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office and met with Park Sehyun, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office. Park also serves as the head of the Prosecution's Special Investigation Headquarters for Insurrection.
Immediately afterward, Min visited the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and met with Park Seunghwan, the acting chief prosecutor. During this meeting, Min requested cooperation from the prosecution regarding the dispatch of 40 prosecutors as stipulated by the special prosecutor act.
The Seoul High Prosecutors' Office is currently re-investigating allegations of Kim's involvement in stock price manipulation at Deutsche Motors. It has been reported that, during a recent search and seizure of Mirae Asset Securities, investigators secured hundreds of audio recordings of phone conversations spanning about three years between Kim and the employee in charge of her Mirae Asset Securities account. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office is investigating allegations involving political broker Myung Taegyun concerning the provision of free public opinion polls and intervention in party nominations.
After the meetings, Min stated, "We discussed the cases that will be transferred from the Central District Prosecutors' Office," and added, "We talked about the prosecutors and investigators who could be dispatched from the Central District Prosecutors' Office and requested cooperation." He further explained, "We did not discuss the specific list of personnel, only the general framework," and said, "We will continue to communicate, consult, and coordinate with each other."
At around 3:30 p.m., the Kim Keonhee special prosecutor team visited the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office and discussed the investigation status and the possible dispatch of personnel for about 30 minutes with Chief Prosecutor Shin Eungseok. The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office has been investigating allegations that Jeon Seongbae, known as 'Geonjin Bopsa,' received expensive necklaces and luxury bags.
After the meeting, Min told reporters, "We discussed the progress of the cases to be transferred to us and whether to receive the prosecutors and investigators who were in charge of the investigation at the Southern District Prosecutors' Office, and requested their cooperation." When asked about the possibility of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office's Deutsche Motors stock manipulation re-investigation team indicting Kim before the launch of the special prosecutor's office, Min replied, "I have not considered it," and added, "We will discuss the specifics gradually."
Afterward, the Kim Keonhee special prosecutor team also visited the Financial Supervisory Service. Under the direction of the Southern District Prosecutors' Office, the Financial Supervisory Service is investigating the alleged stock price manipulation case involving Sambu Construction, in which Kim is suspected of involvement.
