Gijang County in Busan to Create "Morning Sunshine Garden Forest" as a Forest Welfare Hub on Ilgwangsan

Ilgwangsan Morning Sunshine Garden Forest
to Be Reborn as a Forest Welfare Space for Residents

Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) is moving forward in earnest with the "Ilgwangsan Morning Sunshine Garden Forest Landscape Project" to enhance forest welfare for residents and support recreation and leisure activities.

This project is being carried out as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "Development Restriction Zone (GB) Resident Support Project," with a total budget of 700 million won, including 550 million won in national funding.

The project includes the creation of a garden-style athletic space in harmony with nature, focusing on the themed forest road section that stretches from the summit of Ilgwangsan along the mountainside and around the "Dolsaem Sports Park."

Currently, Gijang County is in the process of issuing construction contracts, aiming to begin construction in the second half of this year and complete the project by the end of the year. Once completed, the project is expected to provide improved forest recreation services to residents and tourists through features such as a barefoot loess trail, deck-type observation facilities, rest and convenience facilities, themed gardens, and sculptures.

This project is also expected to create synergy with the "Baramnurigil Barrier-Free Forest Trail" at the summit of Ilgwangsan, which was completed at the end of 2023. Baramnurigil was developed as a barrier-free forest welfare infrastructure with a total budget of 1.8 billion won, including 1.4 billion won in national funding, and is designed for convenient use by people of all ages.

From 2024 to 2025, Gijang County is investing approximately 2.5 billion won in the Ilgwangsan area through the GB Resident Support Project. The focus goes beyond simple forest maintenance, aiming to organically connect themed forest roads, Galmaetgil, and Baramnurigil to establish the entire Ilgwangsan area as an integrated forest recreation and garden culture space.

Governor Jung Jongbok stated, "Through this landscape improvement project, Morning Sunshine Garden Forest will be reborn as a complex forest welfare space where people can enjoy relaxation, health, and emotional well-being in nature, beyond being merely a sports space." He added, "We will continue to develop and expand forest recreation resources to realize 'Gijang, a city of happiness connected by forests.'"
