"Korea Development Bank's Responsibility for the Sale...
Government Must Not Turn a Blind Eye"
The Kumho Tire branch of the Korean Metal Workers' Union held a press conference at the Gwangju plant on June 18, stating, "Management must immediately begin discussions on job security and the construction of a new plant."
The union criticized, "It has been a month since the fire at the Gwangju plant, but management has still not presented any recovery plan or position on job security," adding, "This irresponsible silence threatens the livelihood of workers."

The union further pointed out, "Not only Double Star, the largest shareholder, but also Korea Development Bank, the second-largest shareholder and a state-run bank, must actively provide financial support for the construction of a new plant." They added, "Korea Development Bank, which sold Kumho Tire to Chinese capital, cannot be free from responsibility."
The union emphasized, "The government and political circles must recognize this issue not simply as a local matter, but as a critical issue affecting national jobs and the regional economy." The union plans to hold a publicity campaign, including picketing, in front of the presidential office in Yongsan, Seoul, and the National Assembly starting June 19.
Meanwhile, Kumho Tire announced that it plans to present a recovery roadmap for the Gwangju plant in early July.
