Ulleung County and National Institute of Environmental Research Sign Business Agreement for "Ulleungdo Development"

On June 17, Ulleung County in North Gyeongsang Province signed a business agreement with the National Institute of Environmental Research at Ulleung County Office to strengthen competitiveness in the environmental sector and establish a research cooperation system.

This agreement ceremony was arranged to promote technological advancement in environmental fields?including soil, groundwater, air quality, and the natural environment?through mutual cooperation between Ulleung County and the National Institute of Environmental Research. The aim is to conduct joint research and establish various cooperation systems to enhance sustainable national research competitiveness in the environmental sector.


The main contents of the agreement include: ▲ environmental surveys on soil, groundwater, and air quality; ▲ securing and utilizing samples for the National Environmental Sample Bank; ▲ jointly establishing, operating, and utilizing ICT-based real-time monitoring systems (including groundwater); and ▲ sharing research and investigations on the health impacts of climate change on vulnerable groups in Ulleung County.


With this agreement, the National Institute of Environmental Research has committed to actively cooperate in strengthening the competitiveness of environmental infrastructure fields needed by Ulleung County.


Nam Hangkwon, Governor of Ulleung County, stated, "Protecting the value of clean Ulleung and creating a sustainable environment is one of our county's most important tasks," adding, "I hope this agreement will serve as a practical platform for cooperation to protect residents' health and quality of life in an era where climate change and environmental issues have complex impacts."
