Police are investigating an incident in Geoje, Gyeongnam, where a dog died after being shot by BB pellets fired by three men in their twenties, including active-duty soldiers.
According to the Geoje Police Station and the Beagle Rescue Network on June 18, at around 1 a.m. on June 8, three men in their twenties entered the yard of a restaurant in Ilunmyeon, Geoje City, and fired hundreds of BB pellets at four dogs in the yard.
As a result, two dogs were seriously injured, and one dog ultimately died despite receiving treatment.
The deceased dog was identified as a 7-year-old Jack Russell Terrier named Somsomi.
After receiving a report from the dog's owner, police determined that two of the three men were active-duty soldiers on leave and referred the case to their military unit.
The remaining man, who is a civilian, has been booked on charges of violating the Animal Protection Act and trespassing.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident, including the type of BB gun used and the motive for the crime.
