The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) announced that it held the opening ceremony for the 'KEXIM Warsaw Office' on the 18th (local time) and officially commenced operations.
The ceremony was attended by Heesung Yoon, President of KEXIM, Junyeol Tae, Ambassador to Poland, key Korean companies operating in Poland, major Polish ordering parties and policy finance institutions, as well as global investment banks.
Immediately after the ceremony, President Yoon discussed financial support measures for a large-scale plant project involving Orlen, the Polish state-owned energy company, and Korean companies. He also discussed collaboration plans with Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK), Poland's leading policy finance institution, to support Korean companies' exports and investments, signaling the official start of business operations.
The KEXIM Warsaw Office will serve as a hub for Central and Eastern Europe, covering Poland as well as neighboring countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Ukraine. These countries have long attracted significant investment as production bases for Korean battery, automobile, and home appliance companies seeking to enter the European market. Recently, Korean companies have been winning more contracts in sectors such as defense, nuclear power, plant construction, and railways.
Through the Warsaw Office, KEXIM plans to quickly identify and support local investment needs of Korean companies and establish cooperative relationships with major ordering parties to help Korean firms secure large-scale projects. In particular, the office is expected to serve as an advanced base for securing a foothold in the postwar reconstruction market in Ukraine by establishing close communication channels and cooperation frameworks with the governments of Ukraine and neighboring countries, as well as international organizations.
President Yoon stated, "Central and Eastern European countries, including Poland, have been expanding investments in defense, energy, and social infrastructure, which is expected to provide many opportunities for Korean companies to enter these markets. KEXIM will not only strengthen financial support for local contracts and investments by Korean firms, but also expand its role as a bridgehead for entering the postwar reconstruction market in Ukraine."
