[Market Focus] Mplus Surges on Government's 126.4 Billion Won All-Solid-State Battery R&D... World's First Automated Secondary Battery Assembly System

Mplus is showing strong performance following news that the government will secure a budget to enhance future competitiveness in the secondary battery sector, including all-solid-state batteries. Mplus possesses full-process technology for all-solid-state batteries.

As of 1:52 p.m. on June 18, Mplus was trading at 8,210 won, up 4.19% from the previous day.

On this day, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced plans to foster the secondary battery and energy industries, focusing on strengthening R&D for next-generation all-solid-state batteries and non-lithium secondary batteries.

In particular, securing core source technologies for all-solid-state batteries and developing high-stability and high-capacity materials were presented as key tasks. To overcome the safety and energy density limitations of current lithium-ion batteries, the government plans to promote the advancement and commercialization of all-solid-state batteries through private sector initiatives. In addition, the development of non-lithium secondary battery technologies, such as sodium-ion batteries and aqueous batteries, will proceed in parallel. A total budget of 126.4 billion won will be allocated to next-generation secondary battery R&D over the next five years.

Meanwhile, Mplus was selected as one of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' "100 Outstanding Materials, Parts, and Equipment Companies" based on its technological capabilities, including the world's first automated assembly system for secondary batteries. Mplus also has a reference for developing and supplying pouch-type batteries to GM in partnership with Nasdaq-listed A123 Systems.

Mplus currently possesses full-process technology for all-solid-state batteries, including notching, stacking, stack pressing, tab welding, and packaging. In addition, the company is strengthening its technological competitiveness by focusing on equipment that can replace warm isostatic pressing (WIP), such as ultra-high-pressure hot press machines and multi-stage roll press machines.

It is also reported that last year and this year, Mplus secured consecutive orders for all-solid-state battery pilot lines from major companies in the United States and Korea.
