National Library of Korea and Korean Surname Association to Hold Joint Workshop
Sharing Case Studies on Collecting Old Documents from Four Clans, Including Kimnyeong Kim Clan
The National Library of Korea will hold a workshop jointly with the Korean Surname Association at 1:30 p.m. on June 19 at the Gowoon Choe Chiwon Library (affiliated with the Gyeongju Choi Clan Central Association) in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province. The theme of the workshop is "Current Status of Old Document Collections in Clans and Case Studies of Donations and Acquisitions."
The workshop will feature presentations on the following topics: ▲ The process of collecting and donating old documents of the Andong Kim clan (Kim Taeyoung, Secretary General of the Andong Kim Clan Association) ▲ Motivations for donating old documents and recommended case studies (Jung Yongju, Executive Director of the Dongnae Jeong Clan Jibui Gongpa Association) ▲ Challenges in restoring and managing donated documents (Jung Yongju, Executive Director of the Dongnae Jeong Clan Jibui Gongpa Association).
Prior to the main presentations, there will be a donation ceremony for old documents by Kim Jinyong of the Kimnyeong Kim Clan Chunguigongpa. Mr. Kim will donate 89 volumes of old books and 20 old documents, including the "Kimnyeong Kim Clan Genealogy" published in 1906, to the National Library of Korea.
Kim Heesup, Director of the National Library of Korea, stated, "This workshop, which is being co-hosted with the Korean Surname Association for the second time following the 2021 event, will further strengthen the collaborative network between the various clans affiliated with the Korean Surname Association and the National Library of Korea for the purpose of acquiring and donating old documents." He added, "We will spare no effort in honoring and supporting the donated old documents from each clan through various means such as nameplate unveiling ceremonies, exhibitions, and digitization."
