Seo District Council Member Ahn Hyeongju of Gwangju Calls for Creation of Exclusive Patrol Car Parking Spaces

Shorter Police Response Times at the Scene
Strengthening Patrol Activities

The "Partial Amendment Ordinance to the Seo District Parking Lot Ordinance in Gwangju," proposed by Seo District Council Member Ahn Hyeongju (Sangmu 2-dong, Seochang-dong, Kumho 1·2-dong), was passed as originally drafted by the relevant standing committee on June 17.

With the passage of this ordinance, a legal basis has been established for the first time among Gwangju metropolitan city's autonomous districts to create parking spaces exclusively for patrol cars.

Prior to proposing the ordinance, Council Member Ahn held four working-level consultations with officials from the Gwangju Seobu Police Station. The Seobu Police Station has faced situations where patrol cars, even when responding to urgent calls, have experienced reduced mobility and conflicts with citizens due to parking shortages.

Through hotspot analysis, Council Member Ahn plans to create and expand exclusive patrol car parking spaces in areas with frequent civil complaints and high demand for public safety.

Additionally, with the establishment of exclusive patrol car parking spaces through this ordinance amendment, it is expected that police response times at the scene will be shortened, visible patrol activities will be strengthened, and residents will experience increased psychological reassurance and crime deterrence effects.

Council Member Ahn stated, "Recently, crime patterns have become increasingly sophisticated and diversified, heightening residents' anxiety. By improving the accessibility and mobility of patrol cars through this ordinance amendment, we aim to ensure that residents can be protected more quickly even in crisis situations." She added, "I hope this initiative will expand beyond Seo District to other local governments, contributing to the creation of safer communities."
