This project is in line with President Lee Jaemyung's presidential campaign pledge to expand Bandabi Sports Centers. The government is working to create a country where everyone can enjoy sports by expanding complex cultural and sports facilities nationwide, where people with and without disabilities can come together. The Paju Bandabi National Sports Center is one of the symbolic examples of this initiative.
Approximately 100 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including Paju Mayor Kim Kyungil, National Assembly member Park Jung, City Council Chair Park Daesung, officials from the Paju Sports Council, and local residents.
The Paju Bandabi Sports Center will be a multipurpose facility with one basement level and three above-ground floors, totaling a floor area of 3,922 square meters. The center will include a swimming pool, basketball court, volleyball court, fitness certification center, fitness training room, and multipurpose sports room. The total project cost is expected to be 28.13 billion won (4 billion won in national funding and 24.13 billion won in city funding), with completion targeted for December 2026.
The construction of the Bandabi National Sports Center, the first disability-friendly sports facility in Paju, is expected to create 573 jobs and make a significant contribution to improving sports welfare, enhancing the health of local residents, and promoting leisure activities.
Kim Kyungil, Mayor of Paju, stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the Bandabi National Sports Center becomes a space where people with and without disabilities can enjoy sports, communicate, and recover without discrimination." He added, "We will make every effort to ensure that not a single safety accident occurs until the project is completed."
