Aiming to Open in January 2026
On June 18, the Gwangju Office of Education announced that the development of the "Gwangju Office of Education AI Education Center," a comprehensive institution for artificial intelligence (AI) education, is progressing rapidly. The Education Research and Information Institute, which is responsible for establishing the center, held an interim report meeting the previous day with the working-level task force, advisory professors, and representatives from the construction company to review the design, production, and installation of exhibition and experience content.

The AI Education Center, located in Ochi-dong, Buk-gu, began construction in January of last year with one basement floor, three above-ground floors, and a total floor area of 9,129 square meters. Completion is scheduled for September this year, with the opening targeted for January 2026. The center will serve as a venue for student exhibitions, hands-on AI education programs, training for teachers and citizens, and research on AI-integrated education.
The exhibition and experience content has been designed to reflect AI technologies in Gwangju's strategic industries: automobiles, energy, and healthcare. The center will be developed as an educational space that can accommodate more than 30,000 people annually, offering weekday programs for elementary and middle school students, AI-integrated courses during school vacations, student hackathons, a Robot Software Festival, and AI talk concerts for citizens.
Through this interim report, the Gwangju Office of Education Education Research and Information Institute reviewed the implementation design of the exhibition and experience content, the layout of educational spaces, and strategies to incorporate future educational environments. Moving forward, the institute plans to produce in-house content, develop detailed customized education programs, and revise related ordinances and enforcement rules to improve the institutional framework.
