Gwanak District Creates 15 Nangok-ro Four Seasons Vivid Gardens as Urban Healing Spots

Themed Gardens Created Through Resident Participation

Gwanak District in Seoul has created 15 sections of the 'Nangok-ro Four Seasons Vivid Garden', covering a total area of 2,395 square meters, providing a healing space where people can walk, relax, and enjoy nature within the city.

Gwanak District Creates 15 Nangok-ro Four Seasons Vivid Gardens as Urban Healing Spots Park Junhee, mayor of Gwanak District, planting annual flowers with children at the completion ceremony of Nangok-ro Four Seasons Vivid Garden. Provided by Gwanak District.

On June 17, the district held a completion ceremony for the Vivid Garden with local residents and introduced the gardens to over 100 residents at the 15th Dreaming Garden (1736-13 Sillim-dong). During the event, residents planted 10 types of shrubs and annual flowers, such as Coreopsis and Brunnera, and installed tree labels to commemorate the completion.

The Nangok-ro Four Seasons Vivid Garden was designed under the theme of 'Urban(樂) Garden Filled with Urban Pleasures', and is characterized by direct resident participation in planning, creation, and maintenance. In March, the district held an information session for residents living near the project sites in Sinsa-dong, Miseong-dong, Nangok-dong, and Nanhyang-dong, actively incorporating their feedback from the garden planning stage.

In addition, the first class of Gwanak Healing Gardeners (community gardeners) received practical training at two of the Vivid Garden sites, where they learned about the characteristics of planted species and participated in hands-on planting, further expanding opportunities for resident involvement in the garden creation process.

The facilities within the Vivid Garden were decorated as 'themed gardens' using colors that reflect the characteristics of each neighborhood. The Sinsa-dong garden features mint green to represent a new forest, the Miseong-dong garden uses yellow to symbolize starlight, the Nangok-dong garden is designed in sky blue, and the Nanhyang-dong garden uses light purple to represent a subtle fragrance, each creating a unique atmosphere.

Park Junhee, mayor of Gwanak District, stated, "We have renovated old facilities and removed undergrowth and weeds from unused spaces along Nangok-ro, creating gardens like a 'picnic' where residents can enjoy flowers and trees right outside their front doors. We plan to continue building 'garden infrastructure' in Gwanak, a healing and garden city, so that everyone can enjoy nature, relaxation, and leisure."
