Kim Byungki: "A piecemeal supplementary budget is unlikely to be effective"

Kim Byungki, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "As soon as the government drafts a supplementary budget (extra budget), we will do our utmost to prepare detailed plans for the distribution method and recipients of the Livelihood Recovery Support Fund, even if it means working through the night, so that it can be implemented without delay."

At the Democratic Party Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido on June 18, Acting Leader Kim said, "The Democratic Party has repeatedly emphasized the need to structure the supplementary budget (extra budget) in the form of a Livelihood Recovery Support Fund to boost consumption and domestic demand," adding the above remarks.

Acting Leader Kim emphasized, "In a crisis like this, a piecemeal supplementary budget is unlikely to be effective," and continued, "In times of crisis, expansionary fiscal policy is fundamental, so we urge the government to propose a bolder and more proactive supplementary budget."

Floor Leader Kim added, "When it comes to people's livelihoods, there is no division between the ruling and opposition parties," and called for active cooperation from the People Power Party.

He also pledged to fully uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable for the related incidents through the three major special prosecutors (insurrection, Kim Keonhee, and Chae Haebyung special prosecutor bills). Acting Leader Kim said, "Although the three major special prosecutors are about to begin their full-scale activities, the reckless actions of the insurrectionist forces continue," and added, "Insurrection ringleader Yoon Sukyeol is walking the streets while refusing to comply with a police summons, Kim Keonhee has been admitted to a hospital by court order, and Kim Yonghyun is resorting to tricks, aiming for the expiration of his detention period."

He continued, "The responsibility for this situation lies heavily with Judge Ji Guyoun, who released the insurrection ringleader for an absurd reason, and Prosecutor General Shim Woojeong," and stressed, "We will not tolerate any attempts to obstruct the truth-finding efforts of the three major special prosecutors."

Meanwhile, on the same day, the Democratic Party, the government, and the presidential office held a party-government consultation meeting at the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Yeouido to discuss the second supplementary budget. Policy Committee Chairperson Jin Sungjoon stated, "The Democratic Party has consistently insisted that the supplementary budget to defend the economy should be at least 35 trillion won, and the combined size of the first and second supplementary budgets is now close to that figure."
