People Power Party Attacks Kim Minseok with "Ten Disqualifying Reasons"... Democratic Party's Jeon Yonggi Calls Them "Utterly Trivial Matters"

"Matters That Would Not Be Problematic If Addressed Calmly"

Jeon Yonggi, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the People Power Party for presenting ten major disqualifying reasons against Prime Minister nominee Kim Minseok, calling them "utterly trivial matters."

On the 18th, appearing on MBC Radio's "Kim Jongbae's Focus," Jeon stated, "They have brought up issues that would not be problematic at all if addressed calmly," expressing this view. He added, "The nominee's side has also conveyed that if given sufficient opportunity to respond, they can fully clarify these matters."

Regarding the People Power Party's push to summon Kim's ex-wife as a witness, Jeon questioned, "Is this normal?" and continued, "I don't understand what they intend to achieve by calling his ex-wife. This is an attempt to completely destroy a person's life and target their family. I find it extremely heartless." He further stated, "I oppose summoning the ex-wife as a witness," and added, "Although we do not yet know who will ultimately be called as witnesses, if the purpose of summoning the ex-wife is to ask about matters such as the source of the son's overseas education expenses, there are many aspects I find difficult to agree with."

Regarding the controversy over whether Kim allegedly used his legislative authority for his child's college admissions credentials, Jeon said, "Any civic group or citizen can propose legislation to the National Assembly," and criticized, "The People Power Party brought up indiscriminate suspicions without considering these aspects at all. It seems they tried to fabricate a so-called 'dad chance' allegation, but it was a total own goal." Jeon added, "As far as I know, the nominee's side has clearly stated that his son's college admissions credentials were not used in this way."

Previously, the People Power Party urged Kim to make a decision regarding his position, claiming there were "ten major disqualifying reasons" against him. The reasons presented by the People Power Party included: suspicions of financial transactions with Kang Shinsung and others; controversy over his son's admission to the University of Hong Kong; the source of his son's high school and university tuition; and controversy surrounding Kim's master's degree from Tsinghua University. The ruling and opposition parties plan to hold a confirmation hearing for Kim over two days, June 24 and 25.
