The North American headquarters of LG Electronics, located in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, is gaining attention as a venue for "private sector technology diplomacy."

According to LG Electronics on June 18, this headquarters serves multiple roles: it provides local students from nearby schools with opportunities for hands-on science experiences, showcases future technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) homes and robotics to local university students in its showroom, and presents the company's innovative technology roadmap to key business partners and government officials.

First, the headquarters operates a science experience center called the "LG Inspiration Lab." Covering an area of 440 square meters, the center features displays of organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), robots, and electric vehicle driving simulators. Students who visit can explore and experience artifacts from various fields, including science, mathematics, and the arts.

LG Electronics has also developed educational programs for elementary, middle, and high school students in the surrounding area, aiming to foster their interest in science using LG products. The "OLED Aquarium," constructed with 32 units of 55-inch "OLED Flexible Signage," offers an immersive experience that feels like walking under the sea. Students can also receive portraits from a robot artist and play soccer games using robot vacuum cleaners.

The popularity of the center is spreading locally by word of mouth, resulting in a rapid increase in applicants. Last year, approximately 4,000 visitors came to the "LG Inspiration Lab." This is four times the 1,000 visitors who attended when the science center first opened in 2023. This year is also seeing strong attendance, with more than 3,000 visitors recorded in just the first half of the year.

There has also been a steady stream of American university students visiting the LG Electronics North America headquarters. Since 2023, LG Electronics USA has hosted "LG College Day," inviting university students studying Korean at nearby colleges to introduce them to LG's business and technological capabilities and to provide mentoring. In the first half of this year, students from Princeton University, Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania, Brown University, New York University, and Wesleyan University participated in the program.

LG Electronics presents visiting university students with its world-first wireless transparent OLED TV, the LG Signature OLED T, and the portable wireless screen, LG StanbyMe, explaining the future technologies embedded in these products. The company also introduces its unique corporate culture and various efforts to contribute to the local community as a global corporate citizen.

The LG Electronics North America headquarters also served as a stage for showcasing its innovative technology roadmap during an event in January, when the company, in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in New York, invited consulate generals from 10 countries, including Canada, Finland, Georgia, and Japan, to the North America headquarters. At this event, participants discussed ways to strengthen international partnerships. In particular, the consulate generals toured the showroom within the headquarters to discuss the direction of future technological evolution and showed great interest in high-efficiency and eco-friendly technologies, such as the air conditioning systems applied at the North America headquarters.

The LG Electronics North America headquarters is also recognized as an environmentally friendly building. It has received the highest Platinum rating in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification system from the U.S. Green Building Council, which evaluates environmental impact factors such as energy efficiency and water usage.

The LG Electronics North America headquarters occupies a land area of approximately 110,000 square meters, with a total floor area of 63,000 square meters. To protect the surrounding forests and wetlands, green space was created on about half of the total floor area, and more than 1,500 trees have been planted around the new building. The high-efficiency air conditioning system applied throughout the building helps reduce energy costs.
