Gyeonggi Province Announces AI Governance Utilization Excellence Contest

Gyeonggi Province will hold the 'AI Governance Utilization Excellence Contest' to discover cases where artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including generative AI, have been creatively integrated into all areas of administration, and to further spread a culture of administrative innovation.

Outstanding cases will be linked to future related projects and used as foundational data for AI-based administration within the provincial government.

The contest will be held under the slogan "AI for Administrative Work! Creating Innovation, Expanding Opportunities!" and will be divided into two categories: 'AI Pioneer' and 'AI Frontiers.'

The AI Pioneer category seeks examples where AI has been applied to everyday administrative tasks?such as report writing, data research, and chatbot development?to improve efficiency. The AI Frontiers category looks for cases in which AI has been introduced to various public services, including welfare, safety, environment, and civil complaints, resulting in tangible benefits for residents.

Public officials wishing to participate may apply through their respective departments or organizations via official documents from June 26 to July 10.

Gyeonggi Province will select up to 15 entries through an initial expert review in July, and in August, the top 9 cases will be presented for an online public evaluation by residents.

Subsequently, during the final on-site presentations, a total of 11 million won in prize money will be awarded: one grand prize (2 million won), three excellence awards (1.5 million won each), and five encouragement awards (900,000 won each). The final event will also feature supplementary programs to strengthen practical skills, such as expert lectures and an AI quiz.

Kim Kibyeong, Director of AI at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "This contest is an opportunity to share cases where AI has been applied to administrative work and has led to concrete results." He added, "From small but practical on-site ideas to attempts to change the way we work, I hope this will foster an administrative culture that leads the AI era by proactively responding to AI-driven change."
