President Lee Offers Condolences for Indian Aviation Accident
Prime Minister Modi Expresses Hope for President Lee's Visit to India
President Lee Jaemyung, who is visiting Kananaskis, Canada to attend the Group of Seven (G7) Summit, held a summit meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the morning of the 17th (local time).
Before the meeting, President Lee expressed his deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and the people of India regarding the aviation accident that occurred last week. President Lee went on to say, "As we mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the 'Special Strategic Partnership' between our two countries, I look forward to elevating our bilateral relations to a new level through deepening strategic cooperation and comprehensive ties." In response, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude for President Lee's condolences and said he hopes to further expand close and mutual cooperation between the two countries.
In addition, President Lee said, "I am pleased that more than 550 Korean companies have invested in and entered the Indian market, contributing to the growth of India's manufacturing sector and the promotion of domestic demand and exports." He added, "I look forward to further elevating our bilateral relations to a new level by revitalizing high-level communication, expanding mutually beneficial economic cooperation, strengthening strategic cooperation in key technologies, defense, and the defense industry, and enhancing cultural exchanges."
The two leaders agreed on the importance of people-to-people and cultural exchanges between Korea and India and decided to further develop such exchanges in the future. Prime Minister Modi also expressed his hope that President Lee would visit India in the near future, and President Lee thanked him for the invitation.
