Former President Yoon Sukyeol's legal team has announced that he will not comply with the police's third summons, which requires him to appear for questioning on June 19.
On June 17, the Special Investigation Unit of the National Police Agency stated in a press release, "We have received a written statement from former President Yoon and an opinion letter from his legal counsel," adding, "We will review the contents of the statement and the opinion letter and wait until the 19th."
It has been reported that Yoon's legal team is actively denying the charges brought by the police and is arguing that there is no need for further investigation.
Former President Yoon has been booked on charges of obstruction of official duties by special means, specifically for instructing the Presidential Security Service to prevent his arrest.
Additionally, Yoon is facing allegations of abuse of authority under the Presidential Security Service Act for instructing the Security Service, on December 7, 2024?four days after the declaration of martial law?to delete information related to secure phones used by former Army Special Warfare Commander Kwak Jonggeun, former Capital Defense Commander Lee Jinwoo, and former Defense Security Commander Yeo Inhyeong.
The police are reportedly considering measures to secure Yoon's custody, such as emergency arrest or requesting a pretrial detention warrant without arrest, should he fail to comply with the third summons.
