The Chungnam Provincial Office of Education held the "2025 Student Counseling Volunteer Program Workshop" for two days on the 16th and 17th at the Yesan Splash Resort, with more than 200 participants including student counseling volunteers, supervisors and staff in charge from city and county education support offices.
Under the theme "Dream. Love·Service·Practice," this workshop was organized to strengthen counseling capabilities for psychological and emotional support for students, and to provide an opportunity for volunteers to reaffirm their sense of mission and belonging.
During the workshop, new volunteers were presented with letters of appointment and various commendations, and volunteers took an oath, allowing them to build pride and solidarity as volunteers.
In addition, the event included reports on the achievements, current status, and activity plans of the Student Counseling Volunteer Program, as well as a special lecture on "Empathetic Communication Skills" by instructor Lee Jina, aimed at enhancing counseling expertise.
Launched in 1989 and marking its 35th anniversary this year, the Student Counseling Volunteer Program has consistently worked to protect the mental well-being of elementary, middle, and high school students. In particular, focusing on schools without Wee Classes, the program played a key role in filling counseling gaps in 2024 by providing 2,386 group and individual counseling sessions, offering psychological support to 8,382 students.
Currently, a total of 219 student counseling volunteers have been appointed throughout Chungnam Province, dedicating themselves to supporting the psychological and emotional well-being of students in their respective regions.
Superintendent Kim Ji-cheol stated, "As the number of high-risk students increases, the warm support of each and every volunteer makes schools safer and more resilient spaces," adding, "I deeply appreciate the dedication of the student counseling volunteers and look forward to their continued active involvement."
