The 'Yeoncheon Youth AI Center,' a space where local youth in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province can learn artificial intelligence (AI) technology and develop key future competencies, opened its doors on June 17.
On this day, Yeoncheon County held an opening ceremony for the 'Yeoncheon Youth AI Center' in front of the Youth Training Center on Munhwa-ro, Yeoncheon-eup, with County Governor Kim Deokhyeon, Yeoncheon County Council Chairperson Kim Mikyung, county council members, Yeoncheon Office of Education Superintendent Lee Sangho, residents, and others in attendance.
During the ceremony, youth representatives from Yeoncheon County and Governor Kim Deokhyeon created a theme song using generative AI, and a dance club from the Youth Culture Center performed on stage with their own choreography.
The youth commented, "It was a truly special experience to create choreography and perform on stage to music made by AI," and added, "We want to take on various creative activities at the AI Center."
The AI Center is a project meticulously prepared by the Yeoncheon County Lifelong Education Institute for Unification, established to build an educational environment suitable for the AI era and systematically foster the digital capabilities of local youth.
The AI Center is located at 140 Munhwa-ro, Yeoncheon-eup, with a single ground floor and a total floor area of 333.23 square meters. Construction began in March 2023 and was completed in December 2024. Inside, there is a 'Main Zone' where advanced AI technology can be directly experienced and creative ideas realized, a 'Sub Zone' for coding and other hands-on activities, a 'Teamwork Zone' for team projects, and classrooms A and B for education related to AI and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Yeoncheon County and the Yeoncheon County Youth Development Foundation, which operates the AI Center, plan to focus on strengthening practical competencies by offering smart education programs (9 courses), field-customized programs (15 courses), AI and future career exploration, digital citizenship education, and generative AI practice for elementary, middle, and high school students. In addition, they plan to provide a variety of experiential opportunities, including school visit programs, weekend Saturday programs, and group visit AI experience zones.
Kim Deokhyeon, Governor of Yeoncheon County, said, "I hope this will become not only a place where local youth can experience AI technology, but also an innovative space where they can explore various career fields and discover their future paths. We will provide a wide range of programs and devote efforts to nurturing talent so that Yeoncheon County youth can grow into leaders of the digital era and future technologies."
