Sejong City Launches Gov-Tech Startup Support Initiative

On June 18, Sejong City will host the 'Sejong, Gov-Tech' Startup Support Policy Forum at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management's main auditorium on the Sejong Joint Campus to discuss the future of public services.

This forum is co-hosted by the Sejong Center for Creative Economy and Innovation (CEO: Oh Deukchang) and CODIT (CEO: Jung Jieun), and will be held as a special session of the 2025 Korean Association for Public Administration Summer Joint Conference.

Notably, this is the first event of its kind in Sejong City aimed at fostering the Gov-Tech industry. Government officials, startups, and experts will gather to discuss strategies for building an innovative startup ecosystem. Gov-Tech, a combination of government and technology, refers to services that make public services more efficient and convenient. Globally, startups in the Gov-Tech sector are rapidly gaining attention and growing quickly.

In Korea, discussions are underway to establish an institutional foundation for the Gov-Tech industry and to expand public-private partnership models. This forum is expected to serve as a turning point for these efforts. The forum will be attended by National Assembly member Kim Jongmin and Sejong City Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee Seungwon, who will express Sejong City's commitment to fostering the Gov-Tech industry.

Oh Deukchang, CEO of the Sejong Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, who is responsible for startup support and development, and Jung Jieun, CEO of CODIT, a startup that analyzes and provides AI-based legal, policy, and regulatory data, will give presentations on the importance of Gov-Tech and the need to foster Gov-Tech startups as a strategic industry in Sejong City. In the expert panel discussion, Lee Samyeol, Vice President of the Korean Association for Public Administration (Chair of the Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence Administration), will serve as the moderator, and experts in related fields will discuss innovation strategies for Gov-Tech based on public-private cooperation.

The panelists will include Jang Eunyoung, Director at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety; Jeongbuman, Director at the National Information Society Agency; Kim Sookkyung, Professor at KAIST; Yoon Heesik, Director at Microsoft Korea; and Jo Soyeon, President of the Sejong Facilities Management Corporation.

Lee Seungwon, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, stated, "Sejong City, as an administrative city, is home to a concentration of government agencies and national research institutes, and there is a continuous demand for administrative services such as smart city development. As Sejong City is the optimal place for Gov-Tech startups to freely experiment, we will make every effort to foster the related industry."
