Three Teenagers Rescued or Escaped After Entering the Water Together
Search Continued Until 11 p.m. the Previous Day
One Male Student Found Dead at 9:50 a.m.
On the 16th, an accident occurred in the Hongcheongang River where four teenagers were swept away by a rapid current while playing in the water. The Gangwon Provincial Fire Department is conducting search operations.
A male student who went missing after being swept away by a rapid current while playing in the Hongcheongang River was found dead two days after the search began.
According to the police and fire authorities on the 17th, at around 9:50 a.m. that day, the body of the student, referred to as A, was discovered and retrieved from the river, approximately 100 meters from the point where he went missing.
Previously, at around 6:40 p.m. on the previous day, a 119 emergency call was received reporting that four teenagers had fallen into the water while playing in the Hongcheongang River near an apartment complex in Hawagye-ri, Bukbang-myeon, Hongcheon-gun. As a result of the accident, student A went missing, and the police and fire authorities conducted a nighttime search operation until 11 p.m. that day but were unable to locate him.
Two female students who were also playing in the water were rescued by a soldier before fire authorities arrived. They were treated at a nearby hospital for hypothermia, dizziness, and chest pain. Another male student managed to escape to a safe area on his own and returned home. All three are reported to be in stable condition and not in life-threatening danger.
