Gwangju Transportation Corporation (President Cho Ikmun) announced on the 17th that it held a transportation policy seminar on the 16th at Mudeung Hall in Gwangju City Hall, together with related organizations such as the Gwangju City Council and the Gwangju Sustainable Development Council, to promote the transition to "Gwangju as a Poster City."
During the seminar, after presentations on the current status of transportation operations by related organizations such as Sejong Urban Transportation Corporation and on major urban transportation policy cases, participants engaged in lively discussions and policy proposals. The main topics included the introduction and operation of new transportation modes suitable for Gwangju's urban environment, and visions for strengthening the corporation's role as a specialized public transportation agency.
More than 100 participants, including officials from Gwangju City, the City Council, Gwangju EcoBike, Gwangju Research Institute, other related organizations, and local residents, expressed consensus on the need for an integrated transportation network centered on public transit such as urban railways. At the same time, they emphasized the importance of enhancing policy completeness through analysis of cases implemented in other cities and provinces.
The corporation also agreed to actively participate in strengthening the role of local public transportation, seeking efficient connections between urban railways and other transportation modes, and researching systems to improve the car-centered transportation structure, all to enhance citizens' mobility and realize a green city.
A corporation official stated, "This event was a meaningful opportunity for related organizations to gather opinions for the transition to a city centered on public transportation," and added, "We ask for citizens' continued interest for the realization of a sustainable future city."
