National Policy Planning Committee in Full Operation: "Government Organization Restructuring TF to Be Formed Today" Yonhap News Agency

The National Policy Planning Committee, which serves as the transition team for the Lee Jaemyung administration, announced on June 17 that it will form and unveil a government organization restructuring task force (TF) within the day. Cho Seungrae, spokesperson for the National Policy Planning Committee, stated during a briefing at the Changseong-dong annex of the Government Complex Seoul that "the restructuring TF will be formed centering on the national policy planning division, with the participation of expert members, and we will also listen to the opinions of advisory members."

The National Policy Planning Committee, which was launched the previous day, currently consists of a total of seven divisions: Planning, Economy 1, Economy 2, Society 1, Society 2, Political Administration, and Foreign Affairs and Security. In addition, the committee previously announced plans to establish five to six separate TFs, including those for organizational restructuring, tax reform, balanced regional development, national policy vision, and a five-year national governance plan. The committee also explained that other bodies, such as the National Sovereignty Committee, are currently being formed and that related internal meetings are underway.

On the morning of June 17, the committee held its first operations board meeting, where discussions on policy tasks were conducted by each of the seven divisions. The operations board functions as a control tower, comprehensively coordinating and reviewing the discussions from each division on a daily basis. Lee Hanju, chair of the National Policy Planning Committee, also serves as the chair of the operations board. At the meeting, the establishment of additional TFs to address major economic and social issues, beyond existing policies, was also considered.

Spokesperson Cho stated, "We plan to classify key issues through departmental briefings and a review of presidential pledges, and to form and operate division-specific TFs to enable in-depth analysis and discussion." He added, "Through this process, the National Policy Planning Committee will identify urgent tasks in addition to existing policy assignments." For example, in the case of the national policy planning division, the committee is considering forming a TF related to institutional design in line with the government's regulatory philosophy, and intends to operate flexibly in this regard.

From June 18 to June 20, the National Policy Planning Committee will stay in Sejong City to receive departmental briefings over three days. Spokesperson Cho explained, "The briefings will focus on current issues, plans for implementing campaign pledges, and tasks that can be directly felt by the public. If necessary, on-site visits for specific policy pledges will also be conducted." After the departmental briefings, each division will review the pledges and national policy tasks, then undergo a process of integration and coordination to establish implementation plans and corresponding fiscal and budget plans. Spokesperson Cho stated, "It will be possible to determine how much each stage can be compressed only by next week," and added that further coordination will take place with the presidential office and the Democratic Party of Korea's Policy Committee.
