On June 17, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a Level 3 Travel Advisory (Reconsider Travel) for all regions of Iran.
The Overseas Koreans Consular Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs implemented this measure for the entire territory of Iran as of 1:00 p.m. on the same day. The previously issued Level 3 Travel Advisory for certain areas in Iran will also remain in effect.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "We urge our nationals currently staying in Iran to pay special attention to their personal safety and to leave the country as quickly as possible in accordance with the guidance of our diplomatic missions. We also request that our nationals who are planning to travel to the region cancel or postpone their trips."
Additionally, the ministry added, "We will continue to closely monitor the situation in the Middle East and will keep taking various measures to ensure the safety of our nationals."
Tensions in the Middle East are escalating as nuclear negotiations with Iran have failed, and Israel has launched a surprise preemptive attack on Iran. While clashes between the two countries continue, it has been reported that President Donald Trump issued an evacuation advisory equivalent to a 'departure order' for Americans staying in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on this day.
