Kang Wiwon, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of Jeonnam Province, received his letter of appointment from Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, on the 17th and began his official duties.

Deputy Governor Kang began his first day without a formal inauguration ceremony, instead visiting each department at the provincial government headquarters to greet staff members.

Kang Wiwon, who is from Yeonggwang in Jeonnam, is known as a prominent pro-Myung figure and has served as a standing advisor to the National Innovation Council of the Democratic Party. He has also served as the head of the Yeomindongrak regional welfare community, director of The Gwangju Institute, and president of the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural and Fisheries Promotion Agency.

His connection with President Lee Jaemyung began when he was appointed president of the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural and Fisheries Promotion Agency. During his tenure, when school meal distribution channels were blocked due to COVID-19, he was recognized for his leadership by introducing the nation's first drive-through sales system at a public institution to help contract farmers sell their produce, achieving sell-outs at every event.

He began his public service career in 2011 as director of the Deobureorak Gwangsan-gu Senior Welfare Center. At that time, he established the "Deobureorak Cooperative," Gwangju's first cooperative, enabling seniors to operate a book cafe themselves, raise funds through talent donations, and then open red bean porridge and tofu shops to create employment opportunities. This was recognized as an exemplary welfare model and was widely benchmarked across the country.

Prior to that, in 2008, he founded the Yeomindongrak welfare community in his hometown of Myeoryang-myeon, Yeonggwang, and operated it for over ten years, creating a nationally recognized model by integrating rural education, culture, and welfare. This achievement continues to be highly regarded today.

The Jeonnam provincial government expects that Deputy Governor Kang's extensive experience and network within the ruling Democratic Party will create synergy and greatly contribute to resolving key local issues, such as the long-standing challenges of establishing a national medical school, relocating Gwangju Airport, and advancing the current administration's flagship renewable energy projects.

Kang Wiwon stated, "I will do my utmost to ensure the success of President Lee Jaemyung's era of government by the people and to achieve co-prosperity for Jeonnam Province," adding, "I will devote all my efforts to ensuring that Jeonnam's core issues, which reflect the earnest wishes of its residents, are included as national policy priorities."
