On June 17, Hyundai Motor announced that Hyundai N will participate in the '2025 N?rburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race,' which will be held from June 19 to 22 (local time) in N?rburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
This event determines the ranking by measuring the total accumulated distance as cars race for 24 hours on the N?rburgring circuit, which is considered the world's most demanding race track. It is the only 24-hour endurance race in which only race cars developed based on mass-production vehicles are eligible to compete.
Nicknamed the "Green Hell," the N?rburgring circuit stretches over 25 kilometers, features elevation changes of up to 300 meters, and includes as many as 170 corners. The average completion rate for the N?rburgring 24 Hours is only 60 to 70 percent.
Since its first entry in 2016, Hyundai Motor has successfully completed the N?rburgring 24 Hours for nine consecutive years through last year. In particular, the Elantra N TCR (known as Avante N TCR in Korea) achieved four consecutive victories from 2021 to 2024 in the TCR class.
This year, Hyundai Motor will compete in two classes at the N?rburgring 24 Hours. The Elantra N TCR will race in the TCR class, which is for front-wheel-drive touring cars with engine displacement under 2,000cc. The Elantra N1 Cup Car will compete in the SP3T class, which is for cars based on mass-production vehicles with engine displacement under 2,000cc and minimal tuning. This will be the Elantra N1 Cup Car's debut at the N?rburgring 24 Hours.
For the TCR class, a European team including Manuel Lauck and an America team featuring Michael Lewis will participate. Robert Wickens, a disabled driver, will also compete as part of the America team. He was diagnosed with paraplegia following a major accident in 2018, but made his return to racing in 2022 using a hand control system.
In the SP3T class, where the Elantra N1 Cup Car will compete, the "Hyundai N Cup Team" will field four drivers from Korea, China, and the United States. Representing Korea are Kim Kyumin, who won the Hyundai N Festival N1 class in both 2023 and 2024, and Kim Youngchan, who was selected as a "Hyundai Junior Driver" last year and earned the right to compete in this year's N?rburgring 24 Hours.
Park Junwoo, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor's N Management Division, said, "The N?rburgring circuit is the cradle that embodies the meaning of Hyundai N's slogan, 'Born in Namyang, Honed in N?rburgring,' and it is a stage where we can further enhance the technical perfection of our high-performance N models. I sincerely hope that we can showcase the outstanding durability of accumulated Hyundai N models to N fans around the world."
