Tracing the Movements of a Senior in Their 70s
The story of a senior in their 70s who lost a bag containing 30 million won in Wando, South Jeolla Province, but was able to recover it thanks to the swift investigation by the police, is warming the hearts of those in the community.
According to Wando Police Station on June 17, a report was filed at around 9:30 a.m. on June 13 that Ms. A (75, female), a resident of Cheongsan-myeon, Wando, had lost a bag containing 30 million won in cash.

The previous day, Ms. A had withdrawn 30 million won by closing a savings account at a financial institution on Cheongsando, in order to deliver the cash to her son living in Busan. It was confirmed that she lost the bag while traveling to Wando-eup by ferry.
After belatedly realizing the cash was missing, Ms. A searched the area but was unable to find the bag. In shock, she immediately sought help from the police, and it was reported that she was so distraught and anxious that she could not eat and expressed feelings of despair, saying she "did not want to go on living."
Given the large amount of cash withdrawn, the police first checked for any connection to crimes such as voice phishing. They then began a focused search, analyzing CCTV footage from Cheongsan Port, inside the ferry, and key locations in Wando-eup, tracing Ms. A's movements.
Fortunately, the day after the report was filed, on June 14, the police found the missing bag in front of a flower shop in Wando-eup, where Ms. A had stopped to make a purchase. The bag was placed between flowerpots on a display stand outside the shop, and the full 30 million won in cash was still inside.
A police official stated, "The elderly woman was deeply distressed and unable to eat after losing such a large sum of money. We are very gratified that we were able to recover the bag for her and prevent any further criminal damage."
Local residents who heard about the incident expressed their gratitude, saying, "If it weren't for the police's quick and attentive response, the elderly woman would have had a lifelong regret."
