Currently Hospitalized and Recovering

Shock has spread after an 18-month-old baby was rushed to the hospital in China after being forcibly given beer by a customer at a restaurant.

According to Huanqiu Wang in China on June 15 (local time), the incident occurred recently at a restaurant located in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, China. The outlet reported that while the couple who run the restaurant briefly left the dining area, a regular customer named Wang forcibly gave the baby approximately 50ml of beer.

The baby's mother, Jin, explained, "At the time, I was washing vegetables in the kitchen when I saw my husband suddenly shout and run out. When I went to check what was happening, I saw that my child's face was bright red and hives had broken out." The couple immediately took the baby and headed to the hospital.

The baby is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and is recovering. Fortunately, there appear to be no serious complications. Pediatric medical staff warned, "If the baby had arrived only a little later, severe alcohol intoxication could have caused respiratory arrest," adding, "Young children have a significantly lower ability to metabolize alcohol compared to adults."

Wang explained to local media, "It was just a prank to make the child laugh. I thought nothing serious would happen since it was beer with a low alcohol content," and added, "In my hometown, it is common for children to at least smell alcohol."

However, the victim's parents immediately took legal action. The parents expressed their anger, saying, "Even if it was a joke, forcibly giving alcohol to a baby is clearly illegal," and added, "We never imagined a regular customer we were friendly with would do something like this." Local police have secured evidence such as CCTV footage from the time of the incident and are investigating the exact circumstances.
