Over 50 Employees Participate in Blood Donation, Collecting More Than 100 Certificates
Matching Grant of 20,000 Won Per Certificate Applied
Donated to the Pediatric Cancer Ward at Samsung Seoul Hospital
BGF Retail, the operator of convenience store chain CU, announced on June 17 that it had conducted the "2025 BGF Blood Donation Campaign."
This campaign was organized to help stabilize the blood supply during the summer, when blood donations typically decrease, and to support pediatric cancer patients in need of transfusions. On the previous day, BGF Retail employees participated in a group blood donation on a blood donation bus near the company’s headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and since the end of last month, they have also been running a blood donation certificate sharing campaign.
More than 50 employees from BGF Group took part in the blood donation, and over 100 blood donation certificates were collected from across the country. BGF Retail plans to donate a total of 4 million won, which includes a matching grant of 20,000 won per blood donation certificate and additional contributions, along with the certificates themselves, to the pediatric cancer ward at Samsung Seoul Hospital.
BGF Retail also recently held a volunteer activity to make Hickman pouches for pediatric cancer patients, with participation from both employees and franchise owners. Hickman pouches are essential for protecting and hygienically managing the central venous catheters (Hickman catheters) inserted into patients during chemotherapy. Last month, employees and franchise owners hand-sewed Hickman pouches and donated them to the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation.
In addition, through its affiliated BGF Welfare Foundation, the group is running the "A Healthy Day, A Blossoming Tomorrow" program, which provides medical expense support for children suffering from high-risk diseases such as pediatric cancer, heart disease, and rare intractable illnesses. Through this initiative, in December of last year, 30 million won was donated to Samsung Seoul Hospital to support treatment costs for pediatric patients.
Son Jiuk, Head of Communications at BGF Retail, stated, "Through this blood donation campaign, we hope to reaffirm the noble spirit of sharing that saves lives and to help overcome the national blood supply crisis," adding, "We will continue to fulfill our social responsibility by carrying out various sharing activities based on our corporate philosophy of being 'a good friend to our society.'"
