Samsung Launches New Cinema LED Screen in Europe... Collaboration with Disney and Pixar's "Elio"

Meeting the Demand for Premium Theaters
High Image Quality, Six Times Brighter Than Projectors
10-Year Paid Long-Term Quality Guarantee

Samsung Electronics is introducing a new cinema LED (Light Emitting Diode) screen product in Europe.

On June 17, the company announced that it is participating in CineEurope 2025, the largest European film industry expo held in Barcelona, Spain, from June 16 to June 19, and is presenting its cinema LED screen "Onyx" to the European market.

The Cinema LED screen Onyx is a theater-exclusive LED screen that Samsung Electronics first introduced to the world in 2017. In April, Samsung unveiled the new Onyx model at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas, United States.

Onyx features high image quality, screen size expansion options, compatibility with a variety of media servers, and a paid long-term quality guarantee. It was developed to meet the needs of theaters that are enhancing their premium services.

Onyx supports 4K resolution (4096x2160), a maximum 4K 120Hz frame rate, and accurate color representation with 100% DCI-P3 coverage. It delivers deep blacks and high contrast, allowing hidden details in dark scenes and the colors and textures intended by filmmakers to be faithfully reproduced on screen. In addition, it supports a maximum brightness of 300 nits, which is about six times brighter than conventional projectors, enabling the display of various content such as concerts and live sports even in relatively bright environments.

The screen is available in four standard widths: 5 meters (pixel pitch 1.25mm), 10 meters (2.5mm), 14 meters (3.3mm), and 20 meters (5.0mm). Scaling options are also provided to maximize space utilization according to the size of the auditorium.

Additionally, Samsung is the first in the industry to offer a paid long-term quality guarantee program for 10 years, supporting stable theater operations.

Samsung Electronics has been continuously collaborating with Pixar Animation Studios in the field of 4K HDR (High Dynamic Range) content production. Samsung and Pixar have mastered the new Disney Pixar film "Elio" as 4K HDR content optimized for Onyx and are providing it to cinemas worldwide. Furthermore, upcoming titles such as "Hoppers" and "Toy Story 5," scheduled for release in 2026, as well as future releases, will also be mastered and distributed in 4K HDR.

Onyx has also been installed at the Pixar campus in California, United States, where it will be used for HDR color and luminance testing, HDR mastering content testing, and screenings for directors and production staff.

Jesse Schroeder, Vice President of Post Production at Pixar Animation Studios, said, "Samsung Cinema LED screen Onyx brings filmmakers' visions to life in a vivid, dynamic, and realistic way. The 4K HDR-based mastering process using Onyx offers creators new opportunities for visual storytelling and provides audiences with a next-generation cinema experience."

Jung Hoon, Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said, "We are excited to introduce the technology of the Onyx screen, which enhances the immersive experience unique to theaters, to Europe. Through ongoing collaboration with global film production studios such as Pixar Animation Studios, we will continue to deliver a differentiated cinema experience."

The 4K HDR mastered content of "Elio," which is scheduled for domestic release on June 18, can be viewed at the Lotte Cinema Super LED auditorium equipped with Samsung Cinema LED Onyx.
