Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will completely abolish the separate 200 won fee that had been applied to the Yongin Light Rail Transit.

On June 17, Yongin City announced that it made this decision to ease the transportation cost burden on citizens ahead of the metropolitan area subway base fare increase that will take effect on the 28th.

Yongin City Abolishes 200 Won Separate Fee for Yongin Light Rail Transit Yongin Light Rail Transit operates the section between Yongin Giheung Station and Everland. The separate fee being abolished was introduced in 2014, following the implementation of the metropolitan area integrated transfer system, to address the Yongin Light Rail Transit’s operating deficit. It had been charged in addition to the base fare and the distance-based additional fare.

Starting on the 28th, while the subway base fare will rise by 150 won from 1,400 won to 1,550 won, the Yongin Light Rail Transit will see its separate 200 won fee abolished. As a result, the fare will actually decrease by 50 won, from 1,600 won to 1,550 won.

Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, “We decided to abolish the separate fee for regular passengers in order to reduce the burden on citizens caused by unstable economic conditions and rising prices.” Previously, in October 2023, the city had already abolished the separate fee for youth and child passengers.

The city expects that approximately 8 million passengers per year will benefit from the abolition of the separate fee. Last year, the Yongin Light Rail Transit had an average of 42,247 passengers per weekday, an increase of about 6% compared to the previous year.
