This meeting was organized to facilitate the sharing of current issues and discussions on cooperation measures among mayors and county governors within Gyeonggi-do, with the aim of achieving practical policy improvements.
Prior to the meeting, Chairman Joo Kwangdeok stated, "Since the launch of the 8th term of local government, we have been able to overcome various disasters and unstable situations thanks to the efforts of all council members and the 14 million residents of Gyeonggi-do," adding, "We will continue to work on institutional improvements, including policy proposals to resolve common issues faced by the 31 cities and counties."
During the meeting, attended by 28 cities and counties of Gyeonggi-do, a total of 40 agenda items were reviewed, including a report on the operation of the secretariat.
A total of 37 agenda items were submitted and discussed, including 12 proposals from Gyeonggi-do and 25 proposals from the central government.
In particular, in-depth discussions were held on ways to increase the acceptance rate of proposals by Gyeonggi-do and the central government, focusing on agenda items aimed at improving the weak financial conditions of local governments and promoting balanced regional development, such as the proposal to withdraw the penalty policy for standard personnel expenses and the proposal to exempt new public redevelopment investment projects from feasibility studies.
The council plans to submit the agenda items resolved at this meeting to Gyeonggi-do and the central government. The venue for the 9th regular meeting of the 8th term, scheduled for the third quarter of 2025, has been decided as Siheung.
