Chungnam Province will transform Buyeo, a historical and cultural center of the Baekje era, into a future city that blends smart agriculture and culture by developing a smart farm complex and a Hanok Village, among other initiatives.

On June 16, Governor Kim Taeheum visited Buyeo County as part of the 8th popularly elected administration and presented region-specific future development strategies while communicating with local residents at the Sabimaru Hall of the National Buyeo Museum.

The province plans to add a 230,000-square-meter (70,000-pyeong) smart farm in Buyeo by 2027 and establish an integrated support center for education and training of young farmers, aiming to make Buyeo a hub for smart agriculture.

The province's goal is to create 8,360,000 square meters (2,530,000 pyeong) of smart farms and foster 3,000 young farmers who each earn more than 50 million won annually during the 8th administration.

Governor Kim stated, "We will build an agriculture ecosystem centered on passion so that young people can start smart farming even without capital," and added, "We will provide comprehensive support to ensure young farmers can succeed and settle down."

The Hanok Village project, which aims to strengthen the image of the ancient Baekje capital, will be developed at four sites with a total of 1,300 houses by 2036.

This project, which will be fully launched in accordance with Buyeo County's Ancient Capital Preservation and Development Implementation Plan, will begin with the construction of the Baekje Hall and the development of a modern Hanok model, aiming to recreate a high-quality Baekje royal city.

Buyeo's first general industrial complex, covering 460,000 square meters in the Hongsan-myeon area, began construction in April. Linked with the Opportunity Development Zone focused on secondary batteries, the province plans to attract 10 strategic industry companies in sectors such as batteries and chemicals.

The Baekmagang Garden in Buyeo, which was designated as a local garden site last year, will complete its design and evaluation this year and begin construction. The goal is to complete it by 2027 and register it as a national garden by 2030.

Governor Kim personally visited the construction site of the new smart farm in Janghari, Jangam-myeon, to inspect the progress of the project. The smart farm, built on a total area of 7,260 square meters, is funded by a combined 1.25 billion won from provincial, county, and private sources, and features a high-efficiency cultivation environment by integrating aeroponics and hydrothermal energy.

The main crops grown are five varieties of lettuce for European salads.

Governor Kim's next county visit is scheduled for July 22 in Cheonan City.
